Portrait of Dr. Komal Bhatt

Committee Member

Komal Bhatt

MD · Hospitalist · Class of entry 1989

Read biography

Dr. Bhatt’s passion for medical care started more than 8,000 miles from California, in Mumbai, India. It was there she grew up watching her parents — dad in pharmaceutical management and mom a pioneering educator — dedicate their work to medicine and helping others.

It was soon after she was off to medical school in Bombay for her undergraduate, and eventually to the U.S., where she completed her residency at Tufts. She then started as an Attending Hospitalist Physician at Middlesex Hospital. She and her family moved to California in 2008, where she later joined Regional Medical Center, and then Good Sam in 2016. Today, she’s been a hospitalist for nearly 20 years.

“I’m responsible for a variety of work, including drawing up a treatment plan, creating a patient’s overall care plan, and all the way to admission and discharge,” Dr. Bhatt said. “We may intervene, but we are essentially on call for a patient’s immediate needs.”

Through this broad yet vital lens, Dr. Bhatt and hospitalists like her are able to help deliver quality outcomes for patients while helping reduce the average length of stay and total hospital costs. It’s a win-win, and that’s something she’s interested in staying around for.

“Good Samaritan has camaraderie, mutual respect, and support,” she said. “I continue to look forward to building towards our common goal of better patient care.”

When she’s not actively doing that, you can find her in Cupertino, where she lives with her husband and two teenage children. You may even see her doing one of her many hobbies, including writing poems and choreographing dances for events.
